Below the Acropolis, Hotel Plaka is ideally placed for sightseeing. The 67 rooms are basic but comfortable, and the after-dark roof terrace bar affords views of the floodlit Parthenon.

We loved staying at the Plaka Hotel! This hotel is in an excellent location. We were able to walk to some of the ancient ruins and many restaurants and shops. The rooftop with the bar was our favorite spot to be after dinner. To sit there with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down and the lights come on at the Acropolis was just wonderful. A very nice touch was the bottle of wine that appeared in our room the first night. It was a surprise and much appreciated! We also enjoyed the breakfast room....very bright and nice with all of the windows. I was also amazed at all the food...so many selections. The staff was also very helpful with helping us with any questions that we had. It was also nice to have the free wifi in our rooms to get caught up on mail while we were gone. The rooms were very clean with plenty of space to move around in. I would highly recommend this hotel...and would stay here if we were in Athens again.

My husband and I stayed at the Plaka Hotel for a total of 10 days. During this time we went to one of the islands and we were able to leave our big suit cases in a locked cupboard at reception which was a fabulous service. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly ( not always easy to find in Europe) and the rooms were exceptionally clean. The breakfast was excellent and we loved the free hot drinks and biscuits that were provided all day in the restaurant free of charge. Every morning at breakfast Eva ( tourist advisor) would ask us where we were going and she would proceed to tell us the best way and approx price ... She was never wrong and she spoke many languages-this is an excellent service. The Plaka is in a very central location close to all attractions in Athens. I would stay at the Plaka again without any hesitation. I highly recommend it.

My sister & I made a return trip to the Plaka Hotel at the end of April, having previously stayed there 24 years ago when we were both younger (& single!). It still has one of the best positions in Athens, a fabulous roof top terrace, an excellent buffet breakfast and caring staff. Not much has changed really, except for the quality of the rooms which have improved immensely from when we were on tighter budgets! We were also quite taken back with the lovely ´Welcome Back!´ food & wine tray we received. We did upgrade to an Acropolis view room for our last night and couldn´t have been happier. What a glorious sight to fall asleep to! Thanks to all!

Hotel Plaka is situated in the middle of the old town of Athens, easy to reach from Monastiriki or Syntagma, next to numerous shops, tavernas, bars and restaurants. The Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, Plaka, the flee market and many other places are at walking distance. The rooms of the hotel are great, very clean, with a fabulous view on the Acropolis, which is ever more astounding from the exceptional roof terrasse. The breakfast buffet is fantastic and delicious with a big choice of food including the obligatory delicious greek yoghurt to which one can add as much greek honey as one can digest. I will certainly return to the Plaka hotel for my next trip to Greece.

We liked this so much we came back a week later. Two blocks from metro, central in the city but quiet (did use ear plugs when I wanted to sleep in past 7 am as the church bells start to go off throughout the city), loved spending rest times and late nights on the roof enjoying the view of the acropolis and Hadrian´s library, convenient shopping and eating, and the mini market next door was just too easy. The PR person came around during breakfast to offer help with your plans for the day, she was great at offering other sights to see in the area we were going as well as places to eat. We were delighted with the suggestions and encourage those that stay there to take advantage of her expertise. Breakfast was huge and plentiful offering typical Greek, German, French, British, and American favorite breakfast choices. The hotel was so quiet that one morning we arrived at breakfast to find it full so we knew that the hotel must be full but we sure didn´t hear any of it. Likewise the breakfast was replenished so quickly that it too showed no signs of the group going through. If you are looking for comfortable beds, helpful staff, a good night sleep and a great view this is the place.

For more than 10 years we have found our favorite lodging in Athens has been the Plaka Hotel. Usually twice annually, we are welcomed back to the hotel to enjoy the many benefits of staying there. It begins with the friendly greetings from the staff, the comfortable accommodations, all-day free coffee and ice water in the dining room, the gorgeous roof-top Acropolis views, easy and short walking access to the Plaka and Monastiraki neighborhoods for shopping, dining and the many nearby historic sites. Walking home in the evening, through the quiet streets after a delicious dinner, it´s nice to look forward to the rooftop sofas and bar for a chance to just sit and quietly enjoy being in Athens. After a comfortable sleep, morning finds us in the breakfast room for a choice of coffees and some typical (and fresh) Greek pastries and produce along with egg and meat dishes for your selection. Often you will find a staff person stopping at your table to ask if you need directions for your day´s adventure and if everything is satisfactory for your stay. And don´t worry, because she speaks many languages – six at my last count! In an earlier review of the Plaka Hotel, I said that coming back to the Plaka was like coming home again...it is even more true today as we look forward to returning in both August and again in September 2014.
